The Forsyth County Historic Resources Commission (HRC) has an open seat for a resident of Winston-Salem. The appointee must demonstrate an interest or competence in, or knowledge of, historic preservation. The appointment will be made by the Winston-Salem City Council.

The primary responsibilities of the commission are to review applications for Certificates of Appropriateness in the three local historic districts and for the local historic landmarks and to make recommendations and decisions about historic preservation issues throughout Forsyth County, including architectural inventories, historic markers, local historic landmark designations, and National Register nominations.
The commission is a 12-member body with five members appointed by the Forsyth County Board of Commissioners; five by the Winston-Salem City Council; one by the Town of Kernersville; and one by the Village of Clemmons. A majority of the commission members must have demonstrated special interest, experience, or education in history, architecture, archaeology, or related fields.
