        HICKORY — February is Black History Month, which is an annual celebration of achievements by African Americans and a time for recognizing the central role of African Americans in U.S. history. Since 1976, every U.S. president has officially designated the month of February as Black History Month.

        HICKORY — Hickory Elks Lodge 1654 recently held a dedication ceremony for the newly renovated first-floor banquet and event room of the lodge located at 356 Main Ave., NW.

        HICKORY — The Catawba County Youth Council will begin accepting requests for funding proposals (RFPs) targeted to address the impact areas of health and education as they relate to the needs and wellbeing of children and youth in the community, starting Feb. 3.

        HICKORY — Reservations are now being taken for the Hickory Landmarks Society’s annual historic preservation group tour. The public is invited to join HLS on Friday, Feb. 24, and Saturday, Feb. 25, to visit historic sites and museums in Columbia, South Carolina.
