The Hickory Police Department is investigating a traffic crash involving a train that occurred on Friday, September 4, 2026.
Around 3:30 a.m., Hickory officers responded to a report of a train hitting a 2002 Cadillac DeVille at the 17th Street SW crossing near Main Avenue NW. A driver and two passengers were in the vehicle.
Investigators learned the train track crossing arms were functioning properly at the time of the collision.
The driver of the vehicle was transported to an area hospital by Catawba County EMS. One passenger was transported to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, and one passenger was pronounced deceased on scene.
Hickory Fire Department and Long View Fire Department also responded to the scene.
Charges are pending as of Friday, September 4.
