Connected by compassion: The stories behind the family ties that strengthen CVHS
At Catawba Valley Health System, we believe a great workplace is one worth sharing. Connected by Compassion is a storytelling series highlighting the family connections that make CVHS a special place to work. Across our organization, employees are inviting their loved ones to join a mission they believe in, creating a community of caregivers connected by shared purpose.
Meet the Crouse family: A family connected through care
When Dallas Crouse joined Catawba Valley Health System 10 years ago after working in long-term care, he was looking for an opportunity to continue growing in his healthcare career. With encouragement and guidance from family members and a childhood friend who worked at CVHS, Dallas navigated the application and interview process and began a journey that would shape not only his career, but his family’s connection to CVHS.

“Throughout my career, CVHS has supported me through all of my schooling and continuously encouraged my professional growth and success,” Dallas shared.
Over the past decade, Dallas has experienced the support, opportunities and culture that make CVHS a place where employees can build meaningful careers. It was that experience that inspired him to encourage others to join the organization, especially the people closest to him.
After Dallas and his wife, Miranda Crouse, started their life together, he often encouraged her to consider a career at CVHS. At the time, Miranda was working PRN at another local hospital. When an opportunity became available in February 2021, she decided to take a leap of faith and apply.
Although she initially joined the team in a part-time role, Miranda quickly found her place at CVHS and transitioned into a full-time position.
“She has always been grateful for the opportunity and thankful that she decided to join the CVHS team,” Dallas shared.
Today, Dallas and Miranda proudly work alongside one another, sharing a commitment to providing compassionate care to the patients, families and communities we serve.
Their positive experiences at CVHS continued to inspire their family members to become part of the organization. Dallas and Miranda have helped encourage several loved ones to pursue opportunities and continue their careers at CVHS, including Miranda’s mother, Dana Settle; cousins Erin Walker and Katie Slaght; and Dallas’ cousin, Whitney Simmons.
Each family member brought their own healthcare experience and journey to CVHS. Dana previously worked at a dialysis center before joining the organization. Katie came to CVHS from another local hospital. Erin began her healthcare career as a CNA, later worked at another healthcare facility after graduation and eventually joined the CVHS team. Whitney was already part of the CVHS family and joined the organization shortly after graduating.
For Dallas and Miranda, sharing their experiences at CVHS has meant helping their loved ones find a place where they can grow, make a difference and be part of something bigger.
“We both are proud to work here and are committed to supporting the organization and its mission,” Dallas shared. “We share the same high standards for patient care, professionalism and service, and we strive every day to contribute positively to the patients, families and communities we serve.”
The Crouse family reminds us that compassion has a way of spreading. One person’s positive experience can inspire another, and before long, a family can become connected by a shared mission.
Thank you to the Crouse family for sharing your story and showing us what it means to be Connected by Compassion.
