Wytheville Community College’s highest service honor, the 2026 Distinguished Service Award, was presented to Mr. Cameron Wolfe Jr.
The award recognizes members of the Wytheville Community College (WCC) community who have provided exceptional service to the college beyond normal expectations and compensation, contributing to the enduring life of the institution in unique and exemplary ways. Mr. Wolfe has served on the WCC Educational Foundation Board of Directors since 2003 as Smyth County’s representative and currently serves as board president. Throughout his years of service, he has been a dedicated advocate and supporter of the college, including volunteering on the Lead Gift Committee during WCC’s first major gifts campaign, which raised more than $3 million. In addition to helping establish the Marion Kiwanis Club Scholarship Fund, Mr. Wolfe also created the Cameron Wolfe Architectural Scholarship Endowment. His commitment to the college extends beyond financial support, as he and his wife regularly attend campus events and activities and have assisted WCC leadership in building partnerships and collaborations throughout Smyth County.
Dr. Rhonda Catron-Wood, who nominated Mr. Wolfe for the award, described him as “one of the most dedicated supporters of the college” and highly deserving of the recognition.
The Distinguished Service Awards Program, which includes the Distinguished Service Award and the Distinguished Teaching Award, recognizes excellence in teaching and service at Wytheville Community College. The program was established by Nathaniel W. Pendleton Jr. in memory of his father, Nathaniel Willis Pendleton Sr., whose public service helped make the establishment of WCC possible. The awards are funded through an endowment first established by the Pendleton Construction Corporation Foundation, with later additions made by members of Delegate Pendleton’s family.
