SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Junior outside hitter Allie Sweet of the UNC Greensboro (UNCG) volleyball team has been named the Southern Conference (SoCon) Offensive Player of the Week, announced by the league office Monday.
Sweet led the Spartans offensively with 80 kills and a 5.71 kills per set average in 14 sets on the week. In the team's win over Delaware State on Sunday, Sweet broke the UNCG single-match record in kills by recording a career-best 36. The previous record was 34 kills held by Becky Moore against Chattanooga on Oct. 3, 1997.
"Finishing up non-conference on a winning streak is something we need going into conference," said Sweet. "I am so grateful for the opportunity to play with this team and for this program. I am super excited to start conference! Go G!"

Sweet recorded three double-doubles on the week, marking 29 in her career and six this season. On the week, she recorded five assists, eight service aces, 44 digs, 5.0 total blocks and totaled 90.5 points.
The Woodstock, Georgia, native is leading the country in attacks per set (13.47), points (246.5) and total kills (212). In addition, she is second nationally in total attacks (606), fifth in points per set (5.48) and seventh in kills per set (4.71).
UNCG went 2-1 in the LD&B Insurance Invitational, hosted by James Madison to conclude the non-conference campaign this past weekend. The team currently stands 7-4 overall heading into SoCon action, marking the second consecutive season that UNCG has captured seven wins in the non-conference slate.
As a team, the Spartans are second in the league in aces per set (1.71), assists per set (12.09), hitting percentage (.211), kills per set (13.13), team assists (544) and team kills (591).
The SoCon weekly award is Sweet's fifth of her career and first this season. In addition, it is the third weekly award for the Spartans this year as Izora Gragg has earned SoCon Setter of the Week twice this season (Aug. 31 and Sept. 7).

The Spartans will begin SoCon play in Greensboro by hosting Western Carolina on Friday, Sept. 25 at 6 p.m. and Saturday, Sept. 26 at 3 p.m. inside Bodford Arena.
All regular-season home matches are free admission. For Friday's match, the first 100 UNCG students will receive a free cooler. Saturday's match will be Volleyball Club Night and there will be postgame autographs.
