Oakwood Elementary claimed first place at the Hickory City Schools Elementary Battle of the Books competition held March 9 at Grandview Middle School.
Elementary teams from Longview Elementary, Oakwood Elementary, Viewmont Elementary, and W. M. Jenkins Elementary competed after months of preparation. Each team read and studied 16 books in advance of the competition, demonstrating an outstanding commitment to literacy, teamwork and academic excellence.
Oakwood Elementary emerged as this year’s district champion and will advance to the Regional Battle of the Books Competition for Region 7 on Friday, March 27, at Challenger High School.
“We are incredibly proud of Oakwood Elementary for this outstanding achievement,” said Dr. Jennifer Griffin, Superintendent of Hickory City Schools. “The dedication these students have shown by reading 16 books and preparing for competition speaks volumes about their commitment to learning. We also celebrate every team, coach, and district leaders who made this event such a success.”
