An 11-year-old boy died in what authorities are describing as an accidental shooting in Catawba County.
The shooting occurred around 5:30 p.m. Friday in the 1000 block of Finger Bridge Road in Mountain View, Catawba County Sheriff’s Office Maj. Aaron Turk said via email on Monday.
The young man was transported via helicopter to Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem. The boy died at the hospital, Turk said.
Turk said evidence and witness statements indicate the shooting was accidental and self-inflicted. The sheriff’s office is awaiting results from an autopsy.
No charges have been issued as of Monday morning, Turk said.
