NEWTON —The City of Newton Police Department has partnered with the City of Roxboro Police Department to collect needed items for first responders and emergency personnel in Houston, Texas, affected by Hurricane Harvey.

The Newton Police Department, which is located at 401 North Main Ave., is the collection point for the western part of North Carolina. Items can be dropped off 24 hours a day through Sept. 13. The following items are needed most:

» Underwear - all types

» Socks

» Hygiene products

» Children’s clothing

“Many of our brothers and sisters in Houston have been on the front lines helping their neighbors since before the storm hit land, and many of their own homes were severely damaged during the storm and subsequent flooding,” Newton Police Chief Don Brown said. “When you’re a first responder in an emergency like this, you’re often so focused on helping the people in your community that you can use some extra help taking care of your own family. Through the generosity of the people of Newton and surrounding communities, we can help ease the burden of this natural disaster on first responders and their families.”

If you have any questions or for more information, call the Newton Police Department at 828-465-7430.
