Crimes against seniors to be program topic

HICKORY, N.C. — Adult Children of Aging Parents presents “Avoiding Scams: Tips for Seniors and Their Families” on Tuesday, Sept. 24, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church, Hickory.

The free program will offer adult-child caregivers and other family members the opportunity to better understand major crimes against seniors, including financial crimes, property crimes, violent crimes and elder abuse, and learn preventative measures to help keep loved ones safe.

The presenter, Lt. Vidal Sipe, commander of Community Services PACT, is an expert in crime prevention and brings extensive experience and insight to the program.

“Avoiding Scams: Tips for Seniors and Their Families” will allow participants to review current data and future projections, understand demographics, learn how seniors feel about crime, examine the major crimes against seniors, and become aware of preventative measures seniors can take to help stay safe.

The Adult Children of Aging Parents program venue and registration process has changed. ACAP monthly programs for September, October and November will be the fourth Tuesday of each month, 5:30 to 7 p.m., at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church, 2780 N. Center St., in the fellowship hall. From North Center Street / Hwy. 127, turn beside the church onto 28 th Ave. NE. Park in the parking lot at the back of the church, and enter the fellowship hall via the door under the portico.
