A: Most major manufacturers of hearing aids include loss and damage replacement as part of the first year warranty. If the device is lost, stolen or damaged beyond repair, it is usually replaced after the necessary forms and paperwork are completed. However, there is usually a replacement fee for most high technology hearing aids. This should be specified in the original hearing aid warranty. (In some cases, the coverage may be longer than one year.) Many manufacturers allow users to purchase additional warranty that includes loss and damage replacement. This can be added at the time the instrument is ordered or possibly added at the end of the original warranty period. In addition, there are companies that sell loss and damage coverage beyond the manufacturer’s original warranty. This coverage can also be purchased to include repairs.
